Simpson Tie Down - HDU4 - on 2x6 stud |
On Saturday, I attached the HDU4 tie downs as specified by Tumbleweed in their plans. We used 1/2 bolts -- 12" long" and the supplied screws. Tumbleweed specified eight in total, but I stopped at six. Again, we drilled pilot holes then used a 12" long 1/2" bit to get through the steel in the frame. I remind the reader that the specs are very specific to hand tighten the nuts and then 1/2 turn. In other words, do not tighten it as much as you can. If you are considered of losing the nuts, I suggest a bit of liquid nails on the threads of the bolt where the nut will go. Hammering the end of the bolt just a little once you're done. That also prevents the bolt, if loosens, will not fall off.
We wrapped up the day by finishing my loft-like shelf in the living room area. The loft has the same 4x4 collar tie and boards only 12" long. Maybe this will be for books or potted plans.
